Reports, reports everywhere

September 22, 2016

Need to know which sales territories you should address? Make a report! Have to count profitability of your marketing campaigns? Make a report! Want to track Salesforce users activity? Make a report! Reports, reports, reports everywhere… Although they come in handy, there are always stumbling block on the way of consistent and illustratory Salesforce reports.

We’ve picked the most common of them:

Data for report is missing

It’s obvious that standard Salesforce.com reports don’t provide neccessary solutions to get together the elements you want on the same report. And that’s where Custom Salesforce Reports come into play. They allow you to use complex personalized report types to extend standard Salesforce functionality.

Unlike standard Salesforce cloud reporting, custom types don’t default any data, you can choose objects and relationships according to your needs.

Folders are total mess

Hide unused fields

Have a lot of  fields that you don’t need to include into a report? Seems you just need to remove  these fields to help set up Salesforce reporting pipeline. Leave only those you use on a daily basis.

Pin the folders you need to the top of the list on Report tab

It will significantly save your time on scrolling down for frequently used objects.

Change folder names

You didn’t know that, did you? You can create a custom field section folder. Think about the fields you often use in a different set: create new folders, drag and drop them and enjoy the usability!

Report is overloaded with unnecessary information

If you suffer from abundance of data in your report, filter logic comes to your aid. Filter your end reports using the report builder. Add relevant values  – and voila! – your report is shipshape. Need to filter results by related objects?  Try cross-object reporting by applying cross filters. It comes in handy when you need to track sales, marketing, or financial activities. For instance, you can get a Salesforce marketing report on which leads resulted in better opportunities or which campaigns brought the majority of the leads. Suggested functionality is poor for your business needs

If, after creating custom report you need to hit the limitations, or still lack data visualization, the solution is simple: go to the Salesforce AppExchange, download the advanced, multifunctional reporting applications, for instance, Conga Courier, which allows you deliver scheduled reports directly to users and fine-tune them according to your business requirements. For better illustration, go with Dashboard tools, such as Lead and Opportunity Management and other. Use these extensions to track such things as sales performance, lead generation, employee adoption, and support, to name a few.

Your employees need training

Here’s where shoe pinches! Before you start looking for massive guidances, think about popular websites and applications you use daily: you don’t need to watch a tutorial or consult an expert to get into Facebook or Airbnb. Customize Salesforce org for your users to make reports generation intuitive: no excessive fields, objects and unused relationships – and you will no longer need to watch long tutorial videos, or read cheatsheets each time you need a new report.
